The Philharmonic Jazz Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan

One of leading professional Russian jazz bands, originated from Oleg Lundstrem's orchestra, Kazan big band is a worthy successor and guardian of best traditions of the world jazz orchestra artistic performance (orchestras of Count Basie, Glenn Miller and others). The orchestra was formed from O.Lundstrem's orchestra musicians, who had stayed in Kazan, at the end of 1950s. Step by step, the orchestra was growing due to young Kazan musicians. Tenor saxophonist Victor Dering, the legend of Kazan jazz and "Shanghainese" comrade-in-arms of O.Lundstrem was irremovably managing the orchestra within four decades. The Philharmonic Jazz Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan was established on the basis of two Philharmonia's groups - the State Variety and Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan and the State Cinema Orchestra of the Republic - on the 1st of January, 2011. Professor Anatoly Vasilevsky, the Honoured Art Worker of the Republic of Tatarstan and a country-famous conductor, was appointed as an artistic director of the orchestra from the day of its first performance. Nowadays the orchestra is carrying the baton of Kazan jazz and is one of the most successful and popular musical teams. The orchestra cooperates with many famous jazzmen and jazz teams such as Grammy prize winners New York Voices, Anatoly Kroll, David Goloschekin, Vladimir Feyertag, Vladimir Kaushansky, Jamie Davis, Mandy Gaines, Glynis Martin, Cheri Maree, Alvon Johnson, Igor Butman, and many others.
